A Life Remembered

Obituary

Stephen Berger Roos December 17, 1935 - October 15, 2017

The Astros got their angel in the outfield.

Stephen Berger Roos passed away peacefully on October 15th, 2017 after a brief illness. Born on December 17th, 1935, to Isidore and Dorothy Roos, Steve spent his entire life in Port Arthur Texas. While attending The University of Houston he started his long career in retail. Steve Roos Men's Wear and Butch Hoffer's were the places Steve honed his craft and clothed everyone in the golden triangle. Steve was blessed to call all of his customers his friend.

The one constant thread through Steve's life was his wife Fern. They were friends growing up and married on August 14th, 1960. They spent the next 57 years next to each other from their many cruises to their trips to visit their children and grandchildren. Steves greatest pleasure was traveling to Lake Charles and cleaning out the casinos one blackjack hand at a time.

Steve loved to travel. Some of his greatest trips were visiting the Baseball and Football Halls of Fame and his cruise through Europe.

Steve did have one regret, as he wasn't able to finish "eating his way down Westheimer".

Steve is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 57 years Fern and his three children, Dorothy and her husband Gary Seline, Stephanie and her husband Brad Klein, and Marty and his wife Debbie. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren Brian and Jonna Seline, Blake Seline, Katie and Philip Morgan, Casey Klein, Bailey, Jacob, and Cole Roos and great granddaughter Clara Seline. He is also survived by his Brother in law and sister in law Al and Esterlyn Dugan and his cousin Ursula Lefkowitz.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday October 18th at 10:00am at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home 5200 39th St. Groves, Texas 77619. The funeral and burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park will follow at 11:00am. Pall bearers include Blake Seline, Brian Seline, Jacob Roos, Cole Roos, Philip Morgan, Wilton Allen, and Allen Parker.

Serving as honorary pall bearers are Carl Parker, Lewis Hoffer, Ronald Amuny, Morton Seline, and Barry Davis.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Emanuel at 1120 Broadway St. Beaumont, Texas 77701 or to the charity of your choice.

From family and friends

I realize that this is 5 years late, but my most sincere condolences. Steve was a great influence on my life. I worked with him as a sales associate at Butch Hoffer in the late 90s, when I was a student at Kelly High School. He taught me so much, and I will always remember him. Much love!

One of the nicest guys I ever met, and dealt with him many times at Butch Hoffers during our 23 years in Beaumont.

I first met Steve at Butch Hoffers when I went with my husband (Hank) to shop for new suit. He was so pleasant and helpful. For many years after that he was the one to go to for help with anything I wanted to buy for my husband or sons. I am so sorry to hear of his death. My heart is with all of you his family, he was special.

My thoughts, prayers and love are with you all at this very sad time. I carry in my heart fond memories of Mr. Roos' wit and ready laugh, and his deep love of his family. (And the Astros.) May the blessings of peace and comfort be with you at this time. Much love to you all.
