Capt. J. W. (Poppa) Pearce, 87, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. He was born on December 6, 1926 to J. W. and Suzie Pearce in Corsicana, TX. J. W. is survived by his wife, Shirley Pearce, sons, Troy Bertrand of Houston, TX., and Tracy Pearce of Atascadero, CA., sister, Elizabeth Bruffey of Denton, TX., two grandchildren, Bret Pearce of Denton, TX., Ava Jane Pearce of Atascadero, CA., and two great-grandchildren, Megan and Ethan Pearce of Denton, TX. A memorial service will be on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves with Rev. Dr. Jesse M. Brannen, Jr., officiating.
