Eugene Castillo, 87, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away in Groves, Texas on October 8, 2012. He was born in Leesville, Louisiana, grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana and graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1943. He attended LSU on a football scholarship until being drafted by the U.S. Army during WWII in 1944. He served his tour of duty in Europe. Upon arrival back in the States after the war, he began civilian life working jobs around the country. He settled in Port Arthur, Texas in 1946 where he found work at the Texaco refinery. He retired from Texaco in 1983 after 37 years of service. Gene, as he was known, was preceded in death by his father, Shon Castillo Sr, mother, Lucy Sepeda Castillo, sisters Beatrice Castillo Painter and Marguarite Castillo Corbello, stepsister Josephine Quarles Schapker and daughter, Anne Marie Castillo Jordan. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Juanita Miller Castillo, sons Shon Eugene, Michael Dean and wife Flora Maria, Brian Stephen and wife Deborah, David Wayne and wife Sharon, daughter Lucy Castillo Winger and husband Milton. He is survived by 17 grandchildren, Carlos and Michael Castillo, James, Sara and Jonathan Jordan, Kathleen Patin, Mary Rodriquez, Carol and Vanessa Castillo, Stacy McCool, Stephen and Patrick Castillo, Whitney and Paul Winger, Crystal Hightower, Tiffany Drew and Stephanie Thomas. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren, Sydney Castillo, Tyler and Abygail Jordan, Aurora and Helen Rodriguez, Sofia Castillo, Isabella Wilson, Sam Castillo, Kristopher and Kaylee Hightower, Connor and Caitlin Drew and Nolan Thomas. His surving siblings are brother, Shon Castillo Jr and wife Beverly, sister, Virginia Panunto and husband Paul, step-brothers, Earl Quarles and wife Jo Ellen, Gerald Quarles and wife Patricia, Lloyd Quarles and wife Delia, Ronald Quarles and wife Margarite, stepsisters, Rosemary Quarles Smith and Gladys Quarles Fortsch and husband Tom. Visitation will be at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in the Groves from 5-8 PM with a Rosary to be prayed at 6 PM on Thursday, October 11. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Groves on Friday October 12, 2012 at 11AM. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland with military funeral honors.
