Baxter C. Rivers

March 29, 1937 - August 4, 2011

Baxter C. Rivers, 74, of Bridge City, Texas passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Harbor Hospice House in Beaumont, Texas. He was born on March 29, 1937 to Idene Hennings Rivers and Thomas B. Rivers in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. He has been a resident of the area since 1949. Baxter served in the U. S. Army for the four years. He retired from Occidental as a supervisor after 31 years of service. He and his wife Charlotte built a home on Pleasure Island in Mariner's Cove, where they enjoyed living on the water. He enjoyed spending time with his family and close fiends at cookouts and traveling. Baxter love for the water included boating, shrimping and red snapper fishing trips. He enjoyed tending to his flower beds while living on the island and was even given recognition as yard of the Month. Baxter continued his love for gardening while living in Bridge City, there he had a garden as well as several flower beds. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Curtis Rivers, Rick Koenig, Brett Koenig, Don Lightfoot, Ray LeBlanc, Melvin Daniel, Charlie Benz, Loxley Banks and Eldon Bodden. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Floyd Rivers. He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Gates Rivers of Bridge City, Texas, his daughter, Ashley Koenig and husband Rick of Taylors Landing, Texas, his son, Curtis Rivers and his wife Susan of Beach City, Texas, six grandchildren, Brooke Dumesnil, Deanna Rivers, Melissa Rivers, Brett Koenig, Laura Koenig and Matthew Koenig along with one great-granddaughter, Marlee Brooke Dumesnil-Busbee.
