Cynthia Lee Solberg, a beloved educator and cherished member of the Groves community, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, in Groves, Texas. Born on October 9, 1937, in Tyler, Texas, Cynthia dedicated her life to the service of others, leaving a legacy marked by devotion, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to education.
Cynthia’s illustrious career as a fourth-grade teacher served students in the Port Neches Independent School District, St. Catherine’s Catholic School, and the Legacy Private School. Her extraordinary career spanned over 51 years. Throughout five decades of faithful service, she touched the lives of countless children, inspiring and nurturing young minds with a passion that was evident in every lesson she taught. Her love for her students went beyond the classroom, forging lifelong bonds that testify to her character and dedication. She held a Master’s Degree in Special Education and was honored in Who's Who Among America’s Teachers in 2006-2007 and Cambridge Who’s Who in 2007-2008.
Deeply rooted in her faith and community, Cynthia was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Groves and an active participant in Baptist Lady Ministries. She also found joy in her connection to the Museum of The Gulf Coast, where her membership reflected her appreciation for history and culture. Her personality shone through in her interactions; Cynthia loved her family dearly and held her students close to her heart.
Outside of her professional and spiritual life, Cynthia was a fearless adventurer. She traveled around the world 3 times. She delighted in all kinds of sports, especially basketball and football. She adored Steph Curry and Coach Nick Saban. Cynthia found joy in cheering on her grand and great-grandchildren. She attended ballgames, band concerts and theater productions. These moments spent with family were among her most treasured memories.
Cynthia's family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her beloved, husband, Albert Culver, and her granddaughter, Jessica Hughes Atkinson and her husband Robert, along with great-grandchildren Preston Hughes and wife, Libbie and Presley Atkinson. Cynthia's great-great granddaughter, joined the family in 2025. Her sister, Kathy Page and her husband Dan. Along with her stepdaughters, Emily Culver Beaird and husband Ramon, Brenda Culver and partner Regina Stoneham who remain steadfast pillars of support. Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Katherine Boring, her sister, Patricia Wisenbaker, her precious young son, Christopher (Little Chris) Solberg, and her best friend/daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Lee Block.
A visitation to honor Cynthia’s memory will be held at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, located at 5200 West Parkway Street, Groves, Texas, on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. At 11:00 a.m., a funeral service will follow at the same location, allowing friends, family, and community members to pay their final respects. Cynthia will be laid to eternal rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas following the funeral service.
Cynthia Lee Solberg’s enduring spirit, her commitment to education, and her love for family will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. Her life stands as a testament to devotion, compassion, and she will be greatly missed. May she rest in heavenly peace.
