Donald “Don” Mayfield passed away February 23, 2026 peacefully at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont Texas with his loved ones by his side.
Don Mayfield was born February 1,1945 in Bogalusa, Louisiana to Jack Mayfield and Lucille Fontana Mayfield. Don was a one of a kind individual. He carried his love for his home state throughout his life with his unwavering love for the LSU Tigers. Whether winning or losing you could catch him on his back porch cheering them on. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to spend his time in what he would call “God’s country” hunting all types of animals. He graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1963 where he was a dual sport athlete in both football and baseball. After graduating he attended Louisiana State University where he would go to school every other semester until Uncle Sam knocked on his doorstep in 1965 and he enlisted in the United States Army. He often spoke of his time spent in Germany and his favorite South Korea. After his return from overseas, he packed his bag and headed west to Groves, Texas where he would plant his roots for the next 57 years of his life. He landed a job at Sinclair Koppers in Port Arthur, Texas as an instrumentation technician where he was known for strong work ethic. And if you asked him, his ability work well with others. In 1969 he married Sheila Beach. In April 1971 they welcomed their firstborn son Jeff. And in 1975 they welcomed their second son Dean. In 1993 he married again this time to Wanda Myers Mayfield. In his later years he enjoyed going on cruises with Wanda and simply hanging out in his chair watching his westerns. He handled every obstacle life threw at him with unwavering courage and steadfast control. He always had the ability to tell it how it was.
Don is preceded in death by his father Jack Mayfield, his mother, Lucille Fontana Mayfield, wife, Wanda Myers Mayfield, and brother, Leonard Mayfield.
Don is survived by his three children Jeff Mayfield and wife Laurie of Port Arthur, Texas, son, Dean Mayfield and wife Cassie of Sour Lake, Texas, and Daughter Tiffany Halbert and husband Jeff of The Woodlands, Texas.
