Helen Anne Olson, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, at Harbor Hospice of Beaumont. Born on September 12, 1937, in Minot, North Dakota, Helen Anne lived a life marked by compassion, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and those in her care.
She married the love of her life, Roy L. Olson, and together they journeyed through life, moving across the country before settling into their cherished home in the scenic hill country of Wimberley, Texas. There, they found peace and joy in the simple pleasures—feeding deer, watching hummingbirds, and welcoming family for visits that turned into treasured memories.
Helen Anne dedicated more than 40 years to a career in nursing, working primarily in long-term care. Her gentle touch, tireless dedication, and kind heart earned the trust of countless patients and their families. She balanced her professional life with her most cherished roles as wife and mother, always placing family at the center of her world.
A lover of books, classic films, and the daily challenge of Jeopardy!, Helen Anne was as sharp as she was warm. She was a proud grandmother who delighted in every moment with her grandchildren, and she found great joy in her Swedish and Norwegian roots. Her welcoming nature earned her the affectionate title of “everyone’s Grandma,” and she had a special place in her heart for dogs—often slipping them treats from the dinner table when she thought no one was watching.
Helen Anne especially looked forward to family gatherings centered around good food. She had a fondness for spicy dishes and was always up for a hearty breakfast at IHOP.
She is survived by her son, Michael Olson, and his wife Jennifer Trotter Olson of Sabine Pass, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Kristy Olson of Edgewood, New Mexico; and her sister, Frankie Edberg of Atlanta, Georgia.
Helen Anne’s legacy lives on through her beloved grandchildren: Sarah Halter and husband Josh of Orange, Texas; David Olson and wife Mallory of Iowa Colony, Texas; Rachael Butchee and husband Dillon of Iowa Colony, Texas; Kaitlyn Olson; and Amanda Bell and husband AJ of Edgewood, New Mexico; great-grandchildren: Dani Halter and Colson Butchee, who will carry forward her memory with love and pride. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews, and those who lovingly called her “Grandma”.
She now joins in eternal rest her beloved husband Roy Olson; her son, Mark J. Olson; her great-granddaughter Austyn Halter; her brother Rodger Abelson; her sister Elna Kasson; her parents Chester and Evelyn Abelson; and her cherished cocker spaniels, Gus and Chris.
Helen Anne Olson’s life was a testament to kindness, quiet resilience, and heartfelt service. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and remembered always for the love she gave so freely and the light she brought into every room.
