James "Jimmy" Thomas Woods, a brother, uncle and dear friend passed away on April 28, 2026 in Nederland, Texas.

He was born on February 8, 1964 in Garden City, Michigan to Thomas William Woods and Vicky Hill Woods. As a teenager his family moved to Texas. After graduating from Nederland High School, Jimmy went to work in the oil and natural gas industry, where he worked as a technician for 43 years. He was also a member of the Beaumont Elks.

Jimmy found joy (and sometimes frustration) following the teams of his youth: the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines; he also enjoyed barbecuing, fishing, playing golf and watching cooking, police, and game shows; as well as hanging out with family and friends.

Above all else, Jimmy was a giving person. He was always willing to help others, whether family, friends, or a person in need, he was there. His caring, giving and loving heart will be missed.

He leaves behind his sister, Theresa Mullins and her husband Bart; nephews Andrew, Matthew and Daniel Mullins; nieces Rachel Mullins and Kaitlyn Parks; as well as Tyler Tubbs (Jeremy), Devin Carpenter and Carly Carpenter, whom he considered family.

James was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jeffrey Woods, paternal grandparents, Walter James Woods and Annie Paterson Woods, and maternal grandparents, William Maxwell Hill and Eala Guidroz Hill.

A gathering of Jimmy's family and friends will be from 5-7 pm on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, Texas. A private interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude's.

I am saddened by the loss of James. He was a longtime friend and supporter of Jefferson County Go Texan. When l would hold the annual bbq cookoffs, James would participate anywhere l needed him, as a judge, with the auction, and just his calming presence. He is truly missed. Well done my friend, rest in peace.
