Lucila Serna

Lucila Serna, 75, of Port Neches passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.

Lucila was born on June 26, 1948 in Hebbronville, Texas to parents Adelina (Perez) and Teofilo Gonzalez. She has lived in the Southeast Texas area since 1970 and was a member of St. Therese, Little Flower of Jesus Christ Catholic Church. Lucila retired from Port Arthur ISD as bilingual teacher aide after 40 plus years of employment. She enjoyed going to the casino. Lucila loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Teofilo and Adelina Gonzalez, her husband in 2014, Marcos Serna Sr., her son in 2017, Marcos Serna Jr., her brother, Arnoldo Gonzalez, her uncle, Jose Luz, and her aunt, Odelia Gonzalez.

Lucila is survived by her sons, Ricardo Serna and his wife, Leslie of Port Neches, TX, Carlos Serna and his wife, Courtney of Abilene, TX, her three grandchildren, Noah Serna, Jonah Serna and Caleb Serna.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 PM at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Therese, Little Flowers of Jesus Catholic Church with Rev. Rejimon E. George serving as celebrant. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland.

Honoring Lucila as pallbearers will be Noah Serna, Jonah Serna, Ruben Zapata, Ben Apple, Rodney Russell and David Gongora. Honorary pallbearer will be Caleb Serna.

My deepest condolences to the Serna family.  Mrs. Serna was very dear to me and I enjoyed becoming acquainted with the entire crew as part of the Franklin Elementary staff.  She is well remembered.
