Natchez “Natchie” Daniels, 97, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 11, 2026. Natchie was born in Rose City, Texas on February 16, 1929. A veteran of World War II, he served in Japan with the United States Army. Upon returning from the war, he married Herminia Hernandez in 1949, and continued to live in Port Arthur to raise their family He retired from Texaco Refinery. He worked as a carpenter there for over 30 years. He was a life-long member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where he volunteered by caring for the church grounds, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and served on several building committees. Natchie played an instrumental part in planning the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe for the church, along with developing the grotto for it. He was an outdoors man who enjoyed gardening, fishing, and camping. He was a founding member of the Old Timers Softball Team where he played with his two brothers-in-law and several good friends. Before joining the softball team, Natchie was an excellent bowler and made it several times to the Texas State Bowling League Championships in the 1960s and 70s.
Natchie was proud of his family and was always willing to show his support for his grandchildren by attending performances, softball games, and soccer matches! He loved to travel, especially to Mexico, and enjoyed hearing other’s travel adventures.
Natchie was preceded in death by his wife, as well as his parents and siblings. He is survived by his daughter Sylvia Darcy and her husband Ronald of Katy; son, Richard Daniels and his wife, Chanda, of Beaumont; son, Roland Daniels and his wife Liza, of Orange; six grandchildren, Ron Darcy, Jr. and his wife, Jillian, of Houston; grandson, Zack Smith and his wife, Misty, of Greeley, Colorado; granddaughter, Sofia Darcy of Houston; grandson, Bryan Daniels of Orange; granddaughter, Ashley Daniels of Houston, granddaughter, Emily Daniels of Bon Wier; and six great grandchildren, Jarred Darcy, Lauren Darcy, Keira Daniels, Aspen Daniels, Xander Daniels, and Jackson Inman; and a host of extended relatives and friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 pm to 6 pm at Clayton-Thompson Funeral Home, 5200 39th Street, Groves. The Rosary will follow at 6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, May 18, 2026 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3648 S/Sgt Lucian Adams Drive, Port Arthur, Texas, with internment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves. Serving as pallbearers will be: Arthur Hernandez, Louis Hernandez, Xavier Hernandez, Anthony Treviño, John Rodriguez, and Eduardo Figeroa.
